In Ingraham vs. Wright, student were being paddled or whipped with a belt by their Principal or Headmaster. Many of the student would go home complaining of sore backs and arms. There were some who were too ashamed to speak up about their injuries to their parents. It wasn't till a few parents had spoken out about the cruelty of the punishment that this case was able to see the light of day in the U.S Supreme Court. This happened in the school year of 1970-71. Two students were the main focus. Their names are James Ingraham and Roosevelt Andrew. They both attended Drew Junior High School in Dade County, Florida. The principal is named Willie J. Wright, Jr.
